Artist Statement
My work as an artist is based on the love of drawing, mixed media and working with actual and simulated texture. The study of the figure is important because it is a universal symbol that transcends all languages and socio-political barriers. Within the structure of the figure one can express and present a broad range of human emotion and experience. The work most often contains some classical drawing or painting investigating form, light and spatial position. Often the work contains shapes and forms that are three-dimensional which serves to contrast the drawing. In some cases, the use of both two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms in the same work strengthens the content by adding metaphorical and intellectual messages to the work of art.
