Sunlight, mysterious chemistry, precious metals…murmur
a few hopeful words, wield the camera like a magic wand,
and on a good day, you can conjure up proof of a dream.
I believe in wonder. I look for it everyday.

I first read these words during my own Introduction to Photography course. They aptly described the effect that image making was having on me; the sense of wonder I felt in seeing my image appear, before my eyes, on the paper. Magic. I feel that it is so important, as a teacher of photography, whether it is in the darkroom or digitally on a monitor, that I not forget that first feeling of amazement and instill in my students that incredible sense of awe that photography evokes.
