Honorary Alumnus -- Doug McKibben
Doug McKibben was born in 1947 in Orland, Indiana, and later moved to Orlando, Florida, where he began his career at age 15, selling Fuller Brush products door to door. Doug’s penchant for sales led him in 1970 to the automobile business at Don Allen Chevrolet in Miami, Florida. In 1979, at the age of 31, he bought his first dealership–in Fort Wayne, Indiana – and named it Glenbrook Dodge. Over the years, the Glenbrook Automotive Group has grown its family to include Glenbrook Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz of Fort Wayne, City Chevrolet, City Ford, Warsaw Buick GMC and Warsaw Chrysler Dodge Jeep.
Notwithstanding his business accomplishments, Doug displayed his best salesmanship when he convinced his wife of 42 years, Christine McKibben, to marry him. Doug and Chris have four children and 11 grandchildren, all of whom live in Fort Wayne within a five-mile radius of Grandma Chris and Grandpa Doug.
Doug has served on a number of boards and in various leadership roles in Fort Wayne and surrounding communities. Among others, he has been president of the Indiana Automobile Dealers’ Association and president of the Fort Wayne Rotary Club. He also worked closely with Tom Yehl, a dedicated patron of Fort Wayne and the University of Saint Francis, to help bring Tom’s vision of the Lifetime Sports Academy to life.
