Office of Admissions

After You Have Been Accepted

Once you have been notified of admission to the University of Saint Francis, the following steps must be completed:

  1. Confirmation Fee - All degree seeking students must submit a confirmation fee of $150 within 30 days of acceptance, which will be applied toward your first semester’s bill at the university. (This deposit is only refundable until May 1 for fall applicants and December 1 for spring applicants)
  2. Housing Deposit - If you wish to be in on-campus housing, you must also submit a separate $200 deposit to guarantee your place. (This deposit is only refundable until May 1 for fall applicants and December 1 for spring applicants)
  3. Final HS Transcript - If you are a recent high school student, you must request that an official copy of your high school transcript showing senior-year grades and date of graduation and/or GED score sheet be sent directly to the Office of Admissions after you graduate.
  4. Placement tests in English composition, reading, computer competency, and mathematics may be required for all incoming freshmen and transfer students.  It is recommended that you schedule these tests as early as possible in order to expedite your registration process.
  5. Registration - New students (accepted and deposited) must sign up and attend a registration to complete and finalize their entrance into the university. It is recommended that you allow at least four hours for this event.

New Student Registration

Each registration opens with a brief introductory meeting, in which information is given about college finances, orientation, and purchasing textbooks. Students are then led in groups to the placement testing areas (if testing has not already been completed) or their academic advisors.

Placement Testing

Students may be required to take placement tests so that the university can accurately assess their academic ability in a subject area. This information is then used to match them with an appropriate entry-level course. It is encouraged that placement tests be taken before the day of registration. Please call Student Academic Support Services at (260) 399-7700 ext. 6012 to schedule a time.

The English Placement Test is a computerized writing skills test. The average completion time is 30 minutes.

The Reading Placement Test has a multiple choice answer format, and is divided into two components, Vocabulary and Comprehension. The total time limit for completion is 35 minutes.

The Math Placement Test requires you to solve problems involving the computation of fractions, decimals, geometry, ratio/proportion, and algebraic equations. The total time limit for completion is 30 minutes.
A Sample Test is available here.

The Computer Aptitude Placement Test consists of 30 multiple choice questions covering Microsoft Office 2007 applications (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint).  Completion time for this test is 30 minutes.

Academic Advising and Registration

After completing Placement Test(s), you will meet with a professor from your academic department who will personally assist you in course selection. This advisor will take as long as neccessary to help you in finding open courses and resolving scheduling conflicts. A full load is considered to be 12-18 credit hours.

Student Identification Cards

Students will receive their Identification Cards from the Security Office. Pictures will be taken.

Parents and Guests

Parents and Guests are welcomed to attend along with their student. Separate, informational sessions will be offered during the testing and advising periods. Topics covered are career services, financial aid, business office, residential and commuter life, academic policies, and parenting a successful college student.

Due to the varying schedules of registering students, these sessions may end before your student is finished. Parents and Guests are encouraged to bring a book or hobby materials to occupy the remaining time. A lounge area is available for those waiting.
