- Begin preparations for your internship approximately
two semesters before you want the internship to begin.
Waiting until the last minute adds unnecessary stress.
- Schedule an appointment with your faculty advisor to
notify him/her of your desire to complete an internship
and to obtain an application. When meeting with your
faculty advisor, be sure to discuss the specific
requirements and assignments mandated by the department.
You will also want to discuss whether or not the
internship will be credit or non-credit bearing.
- Schedule an appointment with Chad Edwards, Director of
Experiential Learning, at 434.7734 or
cedwards@sf.edu to begin
the internship process.
- Search for an internship. A great place to begin your
search is by visiting the Office of Career & Professional
Development’s website at
www.sf.edu/professionalcenter and clicking on the
internships link.
- Schedule an appointment with William Brune, Director of
Career Services, 434.3230 or
wbrune@sf.edu to begin
developing your resume and to complete a mock interview.
- Visit the Indiana INTERNnet website at
www.indianaintern.net. This is a helpful resource
which allows students to browse employers throughout
Indiana seeking interns. It also allows employers to seek
potential interns. Completing a quick registration process
gives the student access to hundreds of Indiana employers.
- Network! Talk with family, friends, and professors
about your desire to complete an internship. They may know
of openings or have contacts established in your field.
- Visit the website of companies you are interested in
pursuing internships with. Most of the medium and large
size companies have an employment section which outlines
their internship program.
- Apply to as many companies as possible. This will
increase your chances of finding an internship and
decrease your stress level if an opportunity falls
through.
- Complete several internships throughout the course of
your college career.
