University of Saint Francis Presents Master Kiln Builder

Fort Wayne, Indiana: The School of Creative Arts at the
University of Saint Francis will host Shane Mickey,
master kiln builder,
on Wednesday, March 5 at
6 p.m. and Thursday, March 6 at 1 p.m.
Both lectures will be held in room 011 of the Rolland
Center off Leesburg Road.
In tandem with his work of building a
salt kiln for the university, Mickey will
be giving a
lecture on kiln design and construction, the wood kilns
of Mitchell County, North Carolina and his own work. He
has been building kilns for more than ten years and is a
full-time potter in Bakersville, North Carolina, where
he owns and operates a community wood-fired kiln. Most
recently, Mickey has built kilns at Frostburg State
University and Central Piedmont Community College.
This lecture is free
to the public and is made possible by Arts United of
Greater Fort Wayne, the Indiana Arts Commission and the
