University of Saint Francis Presents Master Kiln Builder

February 27, 2008, Fort Wayne, Indiana: The School of Creative Arts at the University of Saint Francis will host Shane Mickey, master kiln builder, on Wednesday, March 5 at

6 p.m. and Thursday, March 6 at 1 p.m. Both lectures will be held in room 011 of the Rolland Center off Leesburg Road.

In tandem with his work of building a salt kiln for the university, Mickey will be giving a lecture on kiln design and construction, the wood kilns of Mitchell County, North Carolina and his own work. He has been building kilns for more than ten years and is a full-time potter in Bakersville, North Carolina, where he owns and operates a community wood-fired kiln. Most recently, Mickey has built kilns at Frostburg State University and Central Piedmont Community College.
