Public Invited to Free Health Fair at the University of Saint Francis

January 29, 2008, Fort Wayne, Indiana: The Physical Therapist Assistant students at the University of Saint Francis will be holding a Health Fair for the university community and the public on the first floor of the Doermer Health Sciences building on Monday, February 18 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The topics that will be presented at the Health Fair are “MRSA,” “The Benefits of Participation in Sports,” “Women’s Health,” “‘Wii’ Want to Play: How to Integrate Video Games and Exercise,” and “Foot and Ankle Clinic.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn the history, prevention and treatment of MRSA, one of this year’s most talked-about health issues; find out what type of benefits gained from sports, including respiratory improvement, immune system, endurance, and burning calories; hear about women’s health involving musculoskeletal problems and pain with pregnancy, as well as the problem of urinary incontinence and how it can be treated; discover how the Wii video game system incorporates exercise to improve one’s cardiac and respiratory function and range of motion; and learn about foot and ankle injuries along with their symptoms, causes, prevention, and treatment.

The Student Health Fair is part of a class project in Mary Kay Solon’s Physical Therapist Assistant Seminar (PTA284) course. There is no cost to those who attend, and no appointment is necessary. For further information, contact Mary Kay Solon, Director of the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at 260-399-7700 ext. 8547.

The Physical Therapist Assistant Program is an accredited two-year curriculum, which upon successful completion, awards an Associate of Science Degree.

The University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana, founded in 1890, is a comprehensive university in the Catholic Franciscan tradition, offering undergraduate and graduate programs to more than 2,100 students from a broad geographic region.
