Students Sleep Outside, Collect Blankets and Coats To Raise Awareness of Homelessness
October 31, 2007, Fort Wayne,
Indiana: Beginning Friday, November 9 at 8 p.m. and
continuing until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 10,
more than 40 University of Saint Francis students will
spend the night in boxes in front of Padua Hall in the
cold November weather to raise awareness for the
homeless.
The students are asking members of
the community to drop off lightly used blankets and
coats in front of Padua Hall at the corner of Lindenwood
Avenue and Spring Street in Fort Wayne. All donations
will be distributed to the homeless and needy in the
community through local shelters.
This is a University of Saint
Francis outreach and community awareness program. The
Resident Hall Council (RHC) and the Resident Assistants
(RAs) of Padua Hall are heading this event under the
direction of Michael Bechill.
The university’s Franciscan value
for the academic year is “Serve one another, society and
the Church.” “We are pleased to be of service to those
less fortunate,” Bechill adds.
For more information on the
program, please contact Michael Bechill at 419-822-7143.
