Donations to Vann
Library
The Lee and Jim Vann Library welcomes gifts of
library materials—especially materials that fill existing gaps in
our collection and support the curriculum and mission of the
University of Saint Francis. Donated materials are evaluated by the
same standards and collecting policies as purchased materials.
Because of space limitations and processing costs, not all donated
items are added to our collection. Materials the Library does not
generally collect include:
- Textbooks and related instructional aids
- Duplicate titles, except where there is
high demand
- Periodicals
- Previous editions
- Material in poor physical condition or
containing mold
Non-English titles (Some items may be
considered if they support the curriculum or are requested by
faculty or students for specific use)
Materials not added to the Vann Library are offered to other
libraries through duplicate exchange lists, recycled or disposed of
by some other means. The Vann Library reserves the right to accept
or decline any gift of materials.
When more than 20 items are being offered for donation, the Library
requires an itemized list (title, author, publication date) to
ensure materials are sought by the Library. The prospective donor
will be contacted after the list is reviewed to make arrangements
for the delivery of the requested items. Donations of fewer than 20
titles may be dropped off at the Library. The Vann Library does not
pick up donations.
A Gift-In-Kind form acknowledging the number of donated items is
available at the time of donation, with one copy to go to the donor
for her/his records. Library staff cannot appraise donations as this
must be done by book dealers or antiquarians to satisfy IRS
guidelines.
The Library also welcomes monetary donations for the purchase of
materials. Donations to the Lee and Jim Vann Library should be made
through the University of Saint Francis Development Office. If you
