nterLibrary Loan

What kind of materials may not be available from Interlibrary Loan?

· Materials already owned by the Lee & Jim Vann Library
· Rare or valuable materials
· Entire issues of journals
· Audiovisual materials
· Computer Software
· Dissertations

How long will it take to obtain Interlibrary Loan material?

The time required to fill a request will vary depending on:

· Location of libraries owning the material
· Speed of the lending libraries in processing and sending the material
· Accuracy of the information supplied by the requester

On the average, materials obtained from Indiana libraries arrive within 4-7 working days. Materials obtained outside Indiana may take two weeks or longer.

How much will it cost to use Interlibrary Loan materials?

Materials requested through Interlibrary loan are usually available at no cost to the requester. If the requested item is a book, the requestor is responsible for any overdue charges or replacement charges for lost items.

How am I notified when my Interlibrary Loan material arrives?

You will be notified by telephone or e-mail when the material is ready for pick up. Items can be picked up at circulation desk on the 2nd floor of the Lee and Jim Vann Library.

How do I use borrowed Interlibrary Loan materials?

· The lending library sets the loan period and any restrictions on the borrowed materials.
· The due date is indicated on the paper wrapper covering the material.
· Renewals of Interlibrary Loan material are strictly at the discretion of the lending library.
· Request for renewals must be made at least three days before the due date by calling the Interlibrary Loan Specialist at 399-7700 x.6061 or 399-7700 x6065, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
· Repeated disregard of due dates may result in the suspension of borrowing privileges.
· Photocopies received for requested journal articles do not need to be returned

How do I place an Interlibrary Loan request?

Before requesting any item through Interlibrary Loan, please check the University of Saint Francis online catalog or journal list.

If the desired item is owned by the University of Saint Francis but is charged out to another patron, you may place a hold on the item. If you are not sure how to place a hold, someone at the circulation desk can assist you.

All requests must be verified. Hand written citations will not be accepted.

Attach all verified citations to one form, which can be obtained on the web from the library web page, or from the Lee and the Jim Vann Library.

If making more than three requests, please clearly mark your top three choices.

What if I’m an online student enrolled in the distance education program?

Follow all of the steps above for Interlibrary Loan for both the items available in the USF libraries and those that are not.  However, you must identify your status as “Online Student” on the form.  You must also provide your mailing address information along with your request.  Please allow at least three weeks in your research planning to receive requested materials.
