Library Instruction Mission
Statement
Lee & Jim Vann Library
Information literacy is the
ability to articulate an information
need, formulate a search strategy,
evaluate the sources found, and use
the information effectively, as
outlined in the Information Literacy
Competency Standards for Higher
Education created by the Association
of College and Research Libraries.
The library instruction program
is dedicated to addressing the needs
of diverse learners by effectively
using appropriate technology and
emphasizing the need for lifelong
learning, especially in the context
of career growth.
In support of these goals and the
missions of the University of Saint
Francis and the Lee & Jim Vann
Library, the library instruction
program aims to create information
literate students and to provide
support and training to faculty in
the following ways:
-
Developing the research skills
of students through library
instruction tailored to the
diverse needs of learners
-
Providing training to enhance
the research skills of faculty
-
Conducting regular assessments
of library instruction
-
Maintaining and expanding the
professional skills of
instruction librarians through a
variety of continuing education
experiences
-
Collaborating with faculty to
link library instruction to
curriculum and course objectives
