Admission Classifications and Clinical Entry

The Radiologic Technology Program has different classifications of students. The classifications are: radiologic technology student, pre-radiologic technology student and undeclared RT.

Radiologic Technology students have met criteria and are eligible for entry into a clinical course. Acceptance as a radiologic technology student does not guarantee an automatic placement into a clinical course. Faculty after review of the student's admission file, or after results of placement testing may recommend that the student go at a slower pace than the two year progression plan. Students are placed in clinicals based upon a review of their date of acceptance, GPA and number of required general education credit hours completed toward the degree.

Pre-Radiologic Technology students are students who do not meet program criteria and are enrolled at the university working to complete criteria to gain acceptance into the program. Pre-Radiologic Technology students will be assigned an advisor from the program. The advisor will work with the student to plan course work. Pre-radiologic technology students are working to complete 12 hours (including a lab science) of credit at a 2.7 GPA or higher with a "C" or higher in each course and fulfill requirements set for standardized test scores. The program may set other requirements as determined by the Admissions Committee according to program policy.

Undeclared - RT students will need to achieve all criteria of admission prior to being able to register for clinical courses. Please refer to the program's policy on Admissions to review all criteria required.

The program will review each student's file for progression at the close of each semester/summer session according to the following criteria:

Academic Standards

For a student to be in good academic standing in the Radiologic Technology Program, the following criteria must be attained:

  • Cumulative grade point average of 2.7 or higher on a 4.0 scale in all courses.
  • A grade of "C" or higher in all general education courses for advancement.
  • A grade of 85% or higher in all professional radiologic technology courses.
  • Achievement at a satisfactory level of all stated clinical objectives and competencies.

Students will receive a mid-term progress report in all courses where they have a grade below "C" and a counseling session will be held to identify problem areas. If necessary, the student may be referred to the appropriate resources for further help.

At the close of each semester or summer session, the Academic Advisory Committee of the Faculty Council will meet to review student files for compliance with the above criteria. Dismissal and/or terms of probation will be the decision of the Faculty Council.

  • RT and PRAD students achieving below a 2.0 GPA will not be considered for probation.
  • Only one probationary period will be granted during the course of the program.
  • Once in the clinical sequence, failure in any course will result in automatic dismissal from the program.

Entry into the Clinical Sequence

Enrollment in the Radiologic Technology program is based on available resources in order to meet the standards set forth by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Students who are attending the university and meet program criteria for acceptance will have the first opportunity to register for clinical courses. Students requesting approval for a Change of Program during the spring semester will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee and will be considered along with new applicants. It is never a guarantee that an accepted student automatically has a place in the clinical course. A space in RAD 168, Clinical Education I is assigned on the student's date of registration based upon the following:

  • Date of Acceptance
  • GPA
  • Number of required general education hours completed, either at the university or being transferred.

Students are encouraged to attend the earliest registration date designated by the University.
