The next Xi Nu Board of Director's Meeting will be held at Dupont Hospital Board Room on Thursday, March 15, 2007 @ 5:30 p.m.  All members are welcome.

Xi Nu's Research Colloquium is going to be held on Friday, March 30, 2007 at IPFW from 8:15 AM -2:45PM.  Topics range from mentoring new staff, to implementing a new care model in critical care units, to the use of simulators in nursing education, as well as the latest evidence-based practice in patient education.  Potential presentations include: Mentorship socialization orientation program for new graduate nurses; Post-operative care: Do you OHNOC?; As the pump turns; Use of Simulator Manikin; Patient teaching strategies; Where's the evidence?  Poster presentation on research are welcome.  Contact Rebecca Jensen at jensenr@ipfw.edu or (260) 481-5485.  Poster abstracts are due by March 10, 2007.

If any one is interested in applying for the 2007 Nursing Research Fellowship Program  by Midwest Alliance for Health Education (formerly the Midwest Medical Research Foundation) please contact Dr. Nancy Nightingale Gillespie at ngillespie@sf.edu or (260) 434-3240 for more information.  The purpose of the Nursing Research Fellowship Program is two-fold: 1. Foster nursing research opportunities in the community.  2. Provide professional and financial support to nurses conducting research in the field of health care.  Deadline for submission is March 31st.

The Annual Banquet, Awards Ceremony, and Silent Auction Fundraiser will be held on May 22, 2007 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm at the Walb Union at IPFW.  This event is a fun way to meet other Xi Nu members and raise money for our chapter.  Bring a friend with you for dinner and fun!

This is a reminder for you to be sure that your email is update on the STTI web site which may be found at http://www.nursingsociety.org/ .  Please renew your dues when you receive notice from Xi NU.

Membership in this society is a special opportunity to share in the recognition of excellence in the nursing profession. The chapter leaders hope that you will consider applying for membership in the Xi Nu at Large Chapter at USF and IPFW.

Membership Qualifications
  1. Candidates shall have demonstrated superior scholastic achievement, evidence of professional leadership potential and/or marked achievement in the field of nursing.
  2. Candidates shall be selected from students enrolled in accredited baccalaureate and master's programs in nursing:
    1. Baccalaureate Programs
    Students who have completed at least one-half of the required curriculum and have demonstrated ability in nursing shall be eligible. Students shall have a grade point average of at least 3.0 on a four-point scale or its equivalent, i.e., B or the second highest grade of the institution as indicated by the official record of grades.
    2. Programs of Graduate Study
    Programs of study include Master, Post-Master, Doctoral, Post-Doctoral. Nurses matriculated for graduate study in nursing are eligible for membership if they have maintained a 3.5 grade point average or above (on a four-point scale). Full-time graduate students may be eligible upon completion of one-third of their academic program.
  3. A graduate nurse with a baccalaureate or higher degree who has demonstrated marked achievement in the field of nursing shall be eligible for membership in any chapter.
Application Process
  1. Applications, including three membership endorsements by nurse colleagues (e.g., Sigma Theta Tau members, faculty members, nurse supervisors) who are knowledgeable about the individual's professional development in nursing, are submitted to the Xi Nu at Large Chapter Eligibility Committee by ???? each year.
  2. Following an evaluation of the submitted credentials, potential members are notified by the Chapter regarding their acceptance.
  3. New members are invited to participate in an induction ceremony this spring.  Date, time, and location will be announced.  An induction fee is required.
