Assistant/Associate Professor:  Exceptional Needs/Special Education

The University of Saint Francis is a comprehensive university offering undergraduate and graduate programs to more than 2,100 students from a broad geographic region.  While grounded in the Catholic Franciscan tradition, the University respects the diverse religious and cultural backgrounds of its faculty and students.

The Department of Education in the School of Professional Studies seeks a faculty member for a tenure track position in the Exceptional Needs, Mild Intervention/Intense Intervention areas.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in content and methods, and supervising candidates in field placements.  At the undergraduate level, the USF teacher education program prepares all teacher candidates for dual licensure in an elementary or secondary education content discipline, in addition to the Mild Intervention area.

Qualifications include an earned doctorate in two or more high-incidence categories or in two or more low-incidence categories in special education.  Teaching experience in middle/high school settings is preferred, although consideration will be given to other P-12 teaching experiences.   The candidate must work cooperatively in a wide-range of collegial endeavors, including, but not limited to, accreditation, development and delivery of courses, both on-ground and on-line, and service to the university and community.

Physician Assistant Faculty

The University of Saint Francis has an opening for a full-time tenure-track faculty in the Physician Assistant Studies department.  The program has become an integral part of a University community that is committed to teaching healthcare students in an inter-professional environment.  The program has excellent resources, an extremely strong core faculty, and an applicant pool that allows us to attract outstanding students.

This core faculty position will carry the responsibility of teaching in a variety of courses using a team approach.  Experience in problem based learning and lab instruction will be a valuable asset to a candidate.  Scholarly work is also fostered among all faculty, and service to the University and community are encouraged.  Finally, mentoring and serving as a professional role model for students is important.

Candidates should be Physician Assistants or Physicians with significant clinical experience with a Master’s or Doctoral level degree.

Physician Assistant Program

The University of Saint Francis, Fort Wayne, IN, seeks a dynamic individual to split the duties of the clinical coordinator faculty member of our Master’s Degree, Problem Based Learning (PBL) Physician Assistant Education Program beginning July 1, 2008. Under the direction of the Chair of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, the Clinical Co-coordinator assesses, plans, implements and evaluates instruction for students in clinical, PBL, classroom, and laboratory settings in coordination with established course and program objectives. Other faculty member duties include evaluating and advising students; assisting with PA program evaluation and assessment; and projects/duties as assigned by the department chair.

Service to the PA program, the School of Health Sciences, and the University is expected through recruitment, community involvement and various administrative duties including committee appointments.  Must be Board certified graduate of an accredited PA, MD or DO program with current medical license/certification (IN state license or eligible, NCCPA).  Master’s degree is required and experience in Physician Assistant education and problem based learning preferred.

                                             Adjunct FACULTY – Criminology

The University of Saint Francis has an opening for an adjunct faculty member in the Sociology Program to teach a course for the Spring 2009 semester in Criminology. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to teach additional criminology courses in future semesters. Candidates should have a minimum of a Master’s Degree in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Criminology, or Sociology) from a regionally accredited institution, or have sufficient documented or specialized experience to be qualified to serve as an adjunct faculty member in the department.
