Dean, School of Arts and Sciences

Admissions Counselor

University of Saint Francis has an immediate opening for a full time Admissions Counselor. Responsibilities include:  recruitment and selection of new students for the university; management of a geographic territory with travel and evening and weekend events; tele-counseling; special events; application review and selection of undergraduate students; basic Financial Aid knowledge; and other admissions-related projects.  Excellent verbal, written, computer, multi-tasking, and telephone skills; strong interpersonal and organizational skills; high energy and a competitive spirit with a positive attitude required.  Must demonstrate ability to work independently, yet seek and appreciate the benefits of working on a managed team of professionals using a systemized approach to recruitment and admission.  Ability to travel and work evenings, weekends, and long hours is critical.    Bachelor's degree required.  Previous work experience in the area of Admissions or Student Services is preferred.  Send letter of interest, resume and the names of three business references by the end of the work day September 15, 2008 by email to searchcommittee@sf.edu or by mail to the address above.


Nursing Department Coordinator

University of Saint Francis is seeking applications for a full-time Nursing Department Coordinator to beginning immediately.  To qualify, applicants must possess:

  • An associates degree in a related field, bachelors degree preferred;

  • Course work or training in office operations including typing and office procedures,

  • Course work or training in computer use, word processing, data base management, and spreadsheets.

  • Minimum of three years progressively more responsible experience in providing advanced secretarial support at the professional level.
  • Experience preferred in a university setting.
  • Experience in office management and supervision of staff desired.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing the Nursing Department administrative office with supervisory oversight of department secretaries, work-study students and graduate assistants

  • Providing assistance to the Nursing Program Directors and the Chairperson.

  • Performing various administrative duties and/or projects, such gathering data and information for use in preparing reports and statistical summaries

  • Creating and maintaining department database as needed, including faculty information, student demographics and student advising. 

  • Handling a wide variety of situations that occur in the operation of the office.

Instructional Designer

The University of Saint Francis seeks applications for an Instructional Designer.  Under the supervision of the Director of Distance, Instruction and Educational Technologies, provides training in campus supported software, coordinate faculty development programs that assist faculty in the analysis, design, development, and implementation of effective instruction and serve as system administrator for our learning management system.  Quality service is essential in this public relations position to establish positive first impressions and expectations of continued quality service. It is therefore imperative that the Instructional Designer impart the University’s Quality Service Standards, listed as follows:

1.  Promptness, timeliness of information and actions, availability, and ability to respond

2.  Accuracy:  Correct information and actions

3.  Personalization:  Personal contact, personal relationships, and use of names

4.  Professionalism:  Attitude, discretion, appearance, language, honesty, follow-through and accountability

5.  Courtesy:  Politeness, listening, and kindness

6.  Knowledge:  Answers, ideas, and problem solving

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assist faculty members in selecting and implementing pedagogical strategies to enhance teaching and learning. 

Assist faculty to evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning activities.

Provide expert, one-on-one and small group consultation with faculty regarding learning theory, best practices for teaching, and Web-based and computer-assisted course development.

Conducts needs assessments to identify USF faculty members’ ongoing professional development needs related to teaching and learning.

Provides training classes in campus supported technologies and software.

Assist with development and conduct professional development programs in a variety of media for faculty regarding teaching and learning (e.g. effective teaching strategies, teaching online, active learning, problem-based learning, design of teaching-learning spaces).

Provide handouts and learning materials as needed, both printed and electronic, for all professional development programs.

Serve as a resource/troubleshooter regarding course management software for faculty.

Serve as system administrator for creation of web-based and computer-assisted courses using online course management software.

Communicate both verbally and in writing with various university constituents including administrators, faculty, students, other staff and individuals in the university community.

Attend professional development workshops to maintain up-to-date knowledge of teaching and learning and best practices.

Consistently demonstrates behaviors, attitudes and values congruent with the philosophy of the University of Saint Francis and the Franciscan Values.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Thorough knowledge of instructional design theories and practice, and curriculum development related to both campus-based academic environments and technology-based instruction.

Ability to apply adult learning styles and strategies.

Experience in developing and applying new formats for continuing professional development.

Experience in developing and using evaluation instruments for professional development events. 

Experience in effectively using Microsoft Office applications, Web page development software, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop (desirable), and online course management systems (Blackboard preferred).

Well developed interpersonal and communications skills, both verbal and written, and a keen sense of collegiality in order to effectively fulfill the expectations of this position.

Ability to work as a team player.

Ability to respond in a flexible manner to changing needs and priorities.

Demonstrate willingness to affirm the vision and mission of the university.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Preferred: Master’s Degree Education, Curriculum/Development Design, Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, or an academic discipline with an emphasis on curriculum development. 

Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree plus three to five years of experience in Curriculum Development in Higher Education, Distance Education, Instructional Design or Instructional Technology. 

Experience:

Three to five year’s experience in a higher education setting with substantial experience with course/program/curriculum development, assessment, and evaluation.  Mac experience desired.

Record of successful classroom and/or distance teaching at the post-secondary level.

Information Systems Generalist

The University of Saint Francis is accepting applications for an Information Systems Generalist.  Reporting to the Director of Network and Information Management will be responsible for supporting the management and maintenance of University information systems.  Quality service is essential in this public relations position to establish positive first impressions and expectations of continued quality service.   • Assist the Senior Information Systems Coordinator as required
  • Assist the Network Administrator as required
  • Assist the Server Administrator as required
  • Assist with database administration, database programming, and report construction as required
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of Networking and Information Management applications
  • Maintain and promote a positive and service oriented attitude to the campus community

  • Keep professional expertise current in the area of responsibility

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Ability to work with limited direction in a flexible work environment

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education – Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

Experience – One year in a computer related field; Database Administration or Network Administration; or Microsoft Windows Server Administration

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time in front of a computer.  Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to:  lifting heavy equipment up to 50 lbs unassisted, bending, standing, climbing, or walking.

Physician Assistant Faculty

The University of Saint Francis has an opening for a full-time tenure-track faculty in the Physician Assistant Studies department.  The program has become an integral part of a University community that is committed to teaching healthcare students in an inter-professional environment.  The program has excellent resources, an extremely strong core faculty, and an applicant pool that allows us to attract outstanding students.

This core faculty position will carry the responsibility of teaching in a variety of courses using a team approach.  Experience in problem based learning and lab instruction will be a valuable asset to a candidate.  Scholarly work is also fostered among all faculty, and service to the University and community are encouraged.  Finally, mentoring and serving as a professional role model for students is important.

Candidates should be Physician Assistants or Physicians with significant clinical experience with a Master’s or Doctoral level degree.

Physician Assistant Program

The University of Saint Francis, Fort Wayne, IN, seeks a dynamic individual to split the duties of the clinical coordinator faculty member of our Master’s Degree, Problem Based Learning (PBL) Physician Assistant Education Program beginning July 1, 2008. Under the direction of the Chair of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, the Clinical Co-coordinator assesses, plans, implements and evaluates instruction for students in clinical, PBL, classroom, and laboratory settings in coordination with established course and program objectives. Other faculty member duties include evaluating and advising students; assisting with PA program evaluation and assessment; and projects/duties as assigned by the department chair.

Service to the PA program, the School of Health Sciences, and the University is expected through recruitment, community involvement and various administrative duties including committee appointments.  Must be Board certified graduate of an accredited PA, MD or DO program with current medical license/certification (IN state license or eligible, NCCPA).  Master’s degree is required and experience in Physician Assistant education and problem based learning preferred.
