Setting up a new account

If you are a new student, you will need to change your current password before attempting to access your student email. Visit the online password reset tool or contact the Help Desk.

  1. Visit the password reset tool
  2. Enter your full email address (username@cougars.sf.edu) and enter the text from the CAPTCHA challenge.
  3. Select “I forgot my password” and click next.
  4. Select one of the verification methods to reset your password.
  5. Enter the verification code that you receive.
  6. Choose a new password. Your password must meet the following complexity guidelines:
    • Must not contain all or part of your username
    • 8 characters minimum and 16 characters maximum
    • Strong passwords only: Requires 3 out of 4 of the following:
      • Lowercase characters
      • Uppercase characters
      • Numbers (0-9)
      • Symbols (@ # $ % ^ & * – _ ! + = [ ] { } | \ : ‘ , . ? / ` ~ “ ( ) ;)
  7. Welcome to your new email account and access to Office 365.
