Women’s Basketball Looking Good

In the first four minutes of the Jan. 26 game against Goshen College in Hutzell Athletic Center, the Lady Cougars jumped to a 20-0 lead. By game’s end, the Maple Leafs were defeated, 89-37. It was the seventh consecutive win of the season for the Lady Cougars.

USF Head Coach Gary Andrews said of the game, “I was most pleased with our defense right from the opening up. We did an excellent job playing to our strengths and using our quickness.”

The victory over Goshen brought USF to 22-2 overall, 11-1 in Crossroads League play. Of the 11 USF players who played against Goshen, 10 scored.

Kayla Drake had three steals and five rebounds — and she finished with 21 points, leading four Lady Cougars scoring in double figures. Skylarr Shurn and Meghan Slusher each scored 12 points, and freshman Bri Rinehart scored 10. It was Rinehart’s first collegiate game scoring in double figures.

Adding to his comments about the game, Andrews said, “It was good to get everybody some quality playing time…we’ve got a tough stretch of games in front of us and depth may be the key to our success.”
