You Blue: Broadcast Your Spirit a big success

The crowds turned out and enthusiasm ran high for Homecoming 2011, “You Blue—Broadcast Your Spirit.” Alumni traveled from as far away as St. Louis, Indianapolis, New York, Virginia and across Ohio for some first-time events and the every-time fun Homecoming always delivers.

On Friday night, alumni gathered for the traditional dinner and presentation of Alumni Awards and Athletic Hall of Fame awards.

On Saturday, the Alumni Tent in the south end zone proved a popular hang-out, drawing hundreds for food, fellowship, reminiscing and watching an exciting football game with Malone. The Alumni Association tent at Brookside Plaza also drew visits and gave alumni a chance to register for some nice prizes. Winners of the Alumni Association giveaway of $100, $50 and $25 Barnes and Noble gift cards were, respectively, Joyce Flanagan (AS’10, BS ’11), Kenny Paul (AA ’09, BBA ’10) and Anne Braun (BSE ’71).

Inaugural events like the Cougar Spirit 5K Run/Walk and the unveiling of "USF Nursing Heritage: A Journey Through Time" display in Doermer generated excitement. Runners who came up winners in the first run/walk included, for men: Overall first place and first place for male runners, Matt Landry (BBA ’07), with a time of 20:13; and second- and third-place men, USF student Ryan Turner and Roger Grable. For the women, Natalie Wiegmann (BS ’05) placed first for women and second overall with a time of 21:21, while USF students Hannah Lickey and Carolina Flores placed second and third, respectively.

An alumni family dinner in Hutzell Athletic Center drew the energetic weekend to a close on Saturday.
