Holly Roberts Exhibit - 9.5.13
Photographer Holly Roberts will present her works at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013 at the University of Saint Francis’ North Campus Auditorium.
Both a painter and collage artist, Roberts manipulates her original photographs as canvases to describe unknown interpersonal realities that heighten the natural and sublime found in the world. Since the late 1800s, artists have used paint to embellish photographs, adding rosy cheeks to a formal portrait or painting the sky of a majestic landscape. Throughout the years, photographers have continued to tread the line between painting and photography, at times blending the two mediums to create a new dialogue.
Holly Roberts is one of the most revered artists to paint on photographs, and her images force us to examine ourselves and our humanity. Through her steady and unflinching gaze, brutal honesty and tempered toughness, she invites us to look inside ourselves to discover our own fears and truths.
Annual Presidential Gala — Beyond the Human Experience: Three Contemporary Photographers - 9.7.13
The annual University of Saint Francis Presidential Gala puts the spotlight on three internationally recognized photographers who define the human experience as a visual language both figuratively and symbolically. González Palma (Guatemala) examines the power of communication through the gaze and body language of his subjects. His work is influenced by his “mestizo” heritage and that of the indigenous Mayas of Guatemala. Morawetz (Poland) is an installation artist who describes the sleeping self as it relates to human subconsciousness and isolation. Roberts (United States) is both a painter and collage artist who manipulates her original photographs as canvases to describe unknown interpersonal realities that heighten the natural and sublime found in the world.

After college John moved to Maine and became an artist-in-residence at The Center for Creative Imaging. He now works with photo-based digital imaging as his primary medium. John has been awarded membership in many photographic organizations including the Photoshop Hall of Fame, the Epson Stylus Pros, Xrite Coloratti, and the Canon Explorers of Light. His work crosses the lines between photography and painting and displays knowledge of painterly composition and color theory, coupled with content of modern science, psychology, primal cultures, and the environment.
