SOCA gala opening exhibit

The School of Creative Arts’ “2011 Presidential Gala: Bruno Surdo, Figurative Paintings” will open Saturday, Sept. 10 from 6-9 p.m. in the John P. Weatherhead Gallery and run through Oct. 23.

Surdo is an award-winning artist who has exhibited widely on a national and international scale. He has studied figurative drawing and painting in the United States in and Europe. The founder and head instructor at the School of Representational Art in Chicago, established in 1992, he is represented by the Ann Nathan Gallery in Chicago.

Weatherhead Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Summer hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The gallery is located off Leesburg Road in the Mimi and Ian Rolland Center for Art and Visual Communication.
