Fri., March 7, 2008 JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- University of Saint Francis freshman Jean Marqueling finished 23rd in the women's weight throw in the 2008 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships. The only freshman in the 24-competitor field, Marqueling had one qualifying throw in three attempts. She fouled on her first and third throw. She got in a throw of 13.21 meters or 43 feet, 4 1/4 inches. Marqueling, a Bishop Dwenger High School graduate, bettered the minimum "A" standard (49 feet, 6 inches / 15.09 meters) with a winning throw of 15.16 meters / 49 feet, 9 inches at the Runners Forum at Anderson University on Feb. 23. Marqueling's throw is believed to also be a USF record. She had the 16th best throw entering the NAIA Championship Meet. |

By qualifying in the "A" standard, USF is
allowed to also bring up to two athletes who have qualified
by the "B" standard. So fellow freshman Dustin Wilson
(Kankakee Valley High School) l also qualified to compete
for the Cougars in
the NAIA national meet since he registered a "B" standard best in the 400-meter dash at 50.2, which
he ran at the Hoosier Hills Open at Indiana University on
Feb. 15. Unfortunately, a personal matter Wilson had to attend to kept him from competing at the indoor championships. NAIA Indoor Championship Results -- GO USF -- |
