USF freshman thrower qualifies for NAIA indoor meet

   ANDERSON, Ind. -- University of Saint Francis freshman Jean Marqueling has qualified for the 2008 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 7-8 after she unleashed a personal best in the weight throw at the Runners Forum Meet at Anderson University on Saturday.

  Marqueling, a Bishop Dwenger High School graduate, bettered the minimum "A" standard (49 feet, 6 inches / 15.09 meters) with a winning throw of 15.16 meters / 49 feet, 9 inches.

  By qualifying in the "A" standard, USF is allowed to also bring up to two athletes who have qualified by the "B" standard. So fellow freshman Dustin Wilson (Kankakee Valley High School) will also compete for the Cougars in
the NAIA national meet since he registered a "B" standard

best in the 400-meter dash at 50.2, which he ran at the Hoosier Hills Open at Indiana University on Feb. 15.

  Marqueling also finished second in the shot put at 34 feet, 7 inches in Anderson for USF.

  USF women performed well with Lisa Setnicker finishing second in the 55-meter dash 7.90 and Morgan Roy fourth at 8.03. Setnicker also was third in the 200 (29.27) and fifth in the 400 (1:10.40). Roy was sixth in the 400 at 1:10.80. Jessica Harrison playing third in the pole vault, a USF record 8 feet, 1/2 inch.

  Amy Roberts finished third in the 3,000 meter run at 12:00.61 and Tiffany Bremer was fourth (13:22.09). 

  Wilson was a double winner for the Cougar men taking the 200 in 22.91 and the 400 in 50.99. Alex Bush finished fifth in the mile (4:42.00). Matt Truttling finished fifth in the shot (45-3 1/2) and Bart Williams was sixth (44-10 1/4). Williams was second in the weight throw (48-6) and Nick Adams third at 48- 3/4.
