OLATHE, Kan.
-- University of Saint Francis junior Alex Hornstein has been
named to the 2006 NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete Team in
track and field. This is the second time Hornstein has been
honored for academics and athletics during the 2005-06
school year. She was named to the 2005 NAIA Daktronics
Scholar-Athlete Team for cross country last fall.
The
Brownsburg High School graduate qualified for indoor
nationals in the 800 with a time of 2:22. She is an
education major carrying a 3.7 GPA. Hornstein led the USF women's efforts
in the Mid-Central Conference Meet in late April with a
second-place finish in the 400-meter dash, a fifth in the 200-meter dash
and a seventh in the 800 for 14 points.
"Alex was
amazing," USF Coach Sarah Thrall said emphatically. "For
someone to have to run the 400, 800 and 200 when they are
pretty much back to back is hard enough on someone. The fact
that she was able to place in all three events really shows
what a great athlete she is."
