INDIANAPOLIS,
Ind. -- Adam Longsworth won the discus and
finished third in the shot put in the 2006 Little State Track
and Field Meet on Saturday afternoon at the IUPUI Track and
Field Complex.
Longsworth, a
University of Saint Francis sophomore, qualified for the
finals on Friday and won on Saturday with a season best 159
foot effort. His best throw also automatically qualified
Longsworth for the NAIA National Outdoor Championships in
Fresno, Calif., in late May. He accounted for six more points with his place
in the shot put, a 49-7 3/4 effort. He accounted for his 19th
point with an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw.
Freshman Jeremy
Wolley also pointed for the Cougar men with a sixth-place
finish in the discus throw. His top effort was a 146-8 for
three points.
USF finished 12th with 20
points out of 20 teams.
In the women's
competition, junior Alexandra Hornstein and Brandi Gangloff
were the only Lady
Cougars to point. Hornstein placed fourth in the 400-meter
dash finals. She earned five points with a time of 1 minute,
.85 seconds. She also finished 10th in the 800-meter run. Amy
Martin had the 11th best time in the 400-meter hurdles
qualifying, not good enough to qualify for the finals, though
her time if run in the finals would have been good enough for
sixth place.
Gangloff placed eighth in the hammer with a best of 124-9 and
picked up a point. Though she didn't get points, she did get a
PR in the shot put with a best of 30 feet, 9 3/4 inches, 17
inches beyond her previous best.
