INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Junior Adam Longsworth once again stood out with a pair of blue-ribbon efforts for the University of Saint Francis in the 102nd annual Little State Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday. Meet officials noticed Longsworth's efforts and selected him as Male Field Athlete of the Meet. Longsworth won the shot put with a best effort of 51 feet, 4 1/2 inches. He added 10 more points for the Cougars with a winning throw of 162 feet, 7 inches. He went into the meet as the No. 4 seed in the discus. "I was disappointed they cancelled the hammer because I had a shot at winning a third event," Longsworth said. "They cancelled because they were concerned that because it was so wet that the risk of injury was too great to take a chance. I was disappointed for Bart (teammate Bart Williams) because we want to get him qualified for nationals, too." With Longsworth picking up 20 points for his dual win, USF finished 12th on the men's side with 23 points. Freshman Contrell Conwell added three points with his sixth-place finish in the high jump with a best of 6-2. Longsworth is No. 6 on the NAIA shot put 'best' list at 53-3 (Bluffton Univ. OH Meet 3-31-07) and is No. 7 in the discus at 162-7. He is No. 11 in the hammer throw at 168-4 and has qualified in all three events for the NAIA Outdoor Championship Meet May 24-26 in Fresno, Calif. "I'm extremely happy for Adam to receive this award," USF coach Sarah Thrall said. "He is among the hardest working athletes that I have ever encountered. It is an honor for me to be his coach and it is an honor for USF athletics to have such a fine young man in our athletics program."
