DEFIANCE, Ohio -- Junior Adam Longsworth was a double winner while Zeb Bartolome, Alexandra Hornstein and Lisa Marie-Setnicker added solo blue ribbon finishes for the University of Saint Francis on Saturday at the Dick Small Invitational at Defiance College. The Lady Cougars finished with 58 points, one of their best team totals in recent memory, to finish fifth out of 12 teams. The Cougars finished with 56.5 points good for sixth out of 15 teams. It was the first outdoor meet of the season for USF and head coach Sarah Thrall. "Alex ran really well for us in her events and ran two great legs on both the relays. Lisa Marie ran extremely well for us in the 400 and did a great job in the long jump," Thrall said. "On the men’s side, Zeb had a really good meet, Gilbert ran his best time in the 400 and Adam and Bart gave us some much needed points in their throwing events." Longsworth won the shot put and the discus for 20 points and added a fifth in the hammer throw for four points and a total of 24. Longsworth won the discus with a best effort of 43.47 meters and the shot put with a top effort of 15.45 meters. Bartolome, competing in his first collegiate outdoor meet, won the long jump with a best of 6.27 meters. He also anchored the Cougars' 4 X 100 relay team that finished third in 43.41. Gilbert Allen, Josh Whitfield, and Contrell Conwell all contributed excellent efforts in that relay. Bartolome also had a sixth in the 100-meter dash. Conwell picked up six points for USF with a third in the high jump at 1.86 meters. Bart Williams added three points with a sixth in the hammer throw. Hornstein won the 400 in a time of 1:00.20 and Setnicker added a fourth in the 400. Setnicker won the long jump with a best jump of 4.70 meters. Kim Brumbaugh and Morgan Roy joined efforts with Hornstein and Setnicker to earn a fourth-place finish in the 4 X 100 meter relay for five points. Brumbaugh, Hornstein, Setnicker and Jessica Taghon picked up three more points with a fifth-place finish in the 4 X 400 meter relay. Brumbaugh and Taghon finished second and third respectively in the triple jump. -- GO USF -- |
