SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Timely hitting and Amber Ludwig's
10-strikeout pitching earned the University of Saint Francis
a 4-2 win over Pikeville (KY), but Brewton Parker (GA) held
USF to two hits in a 4-1 win in the 'nightcap' of the
doubleheader on Tuesday.
"Amber hit her spots, worked the corners and made them hit
it on the ground," USF coach Ryan Bolyn remarked after the
win over Pikeville. "She's confident in her ability to throw
the pitch she needs to in the right spot and she's confident
in our defense."
Kaitlyn Kline's two-out, two-strike double into the
right-centerfield gap propelled the Lady Cougars into a 2-0
lead when Kassidy DeVree and Stacey Swinford scored.
Swinford scored an unearned run in the fourth on an error
and Rochelle Rehm blasted her second home run of the season
to centerfield in the fifth pushing the USF lead to 4-0.
PC
scored on an error in the ninth and added another run on a
single. With runners at first and second and two outs,
Ludwig got a fly to left to end the game.
DeVree went 2-for-2 pushing her batting average to .667. She
added to more in the loss to Brewton Parker. Ludwig started
Game 2, but only lasted 1 2/3 inning yielding three runs in
the first two innings. A.J. McCoy relieved Ludwig in the
circlt and only surrendered one more run, but after cut the
deficit to 2-1 with a run in the bottom of the first, the
Lady Cougars only managed one other hit.
