SAVANNAH, Ga. -- University of Saint Francis head coach Ryan
Bolyn was considerably upbeat despite his Lady Cougars' 5-0
loss to Bloomsburg College in the first of two games on
Sunday.
"Until the seventh when they scored three runs, we still had
a chance against the No. 12 team in NCAA II, so I feel
pretty good about the way we played," Bolyn said. "We beat a
good South Georgia College team in Game 2, so we are makin'
progress."
USF
defeated South Georgia 5-1, but won't count the win on its
schedule since SGC is a junior college.
Though A.J. McCoy absorbed the loss in the circle for USF,
she only yielded two earned runs against Bloomsburg (2-1).
Tara Reed yielded just four hits against the Lady Cougars
and fanned 12.
USF
got runner to second in the fourth and in the sixth. In the
fourth Stacey Swinford walked and stole second with two out,
but Eden Lamb struckout. In the sixth, Rochelle Rehm and
Kyle Rosecrants singled, but Reed enticed Stacey Swinford
into a strikeout to end the threat.
Though the second game didn't count, Whitney Piercefield
went 2-for-4 with three RBI for USF. Swinford went 1-for-2
with two RBI. Cassie Steinbrunner got the 'win' in the
circle pitching the first five innings. Rehm and Piercefield
had two hits apiece.
