SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Whitney Piercefield doubled twice and
knocked in a run, but it wasn't enough for the University of
Saint Francis in its opening game in the SCAD Smash Hit
Invitational. Reinhardt College held on to edge USF 3-2 on
Saturday morning.
In
the Lady Cougars' second game, Northwood University (FL)
dominated to take a 9-1 decision.
Kassidy DeVree had two bunt hits in the first game for USF.
Leigh Wells and Kyle Rosecrants scored a run apiece for the
Lady Cougars. Amber Ludwig pitched all seven innings and
suffered the loss in the circle.
Jessica Wood scored on a wild pitch in the first inning of
Game 2 giving USF a 1-0 lead. But after starting pitcher
Tiffany Steinbrunner pitched two scoreless innings,
Northwood scored five in the third to take control and chase
Steinbrunner, though only one of Northwood's eight runs off
Steinbrunner in the third and fourth inning was earned. USF
committed four errors.
USF
only managed two hits, one apiece for Piercefield and DeVree.
Piercefield's single leading off the fourth inning ended the
no-hit bid.
