FINDLAY, Ohio – University of Saint Francis inside
linebacker Brian Kurtz has been selected Mid-States Football
Association Mideast League Player of the Week for November
4, the fourth time this season the senior has been selected
for the defensive honor this season.
Cougars, Kurtz had nine tackles, five solo, two forced
fumbles and a pass broken up. Kurtz led a swarming USF
defense that held the MSFA's leading rusher, Antwain Reine'
at 103.7 ypg, to just 15 yards rushing. The Bishop Luers
graduate also scored his first collegiate TD on offense when
he gathered in a short pass from QB Eric Hooks and dashed 13
yards for the TD on third and 9 for USF at the Walsh 13 in
the second quarter.
This
is the fifth time Kurtz, a 2006 Pre-season Victory Sports
Network All-American and 2005 NAIA first-team All-American,
has won the weekly conference tribute for his football
career at USF. He is one of three Cougars now joining Jeremy
Hibbeln and Chris Bramell to earn the weekly honor five
time.
The
Cougars, who defeated then No. 3 Walsh University on Nov. 4
21-7 for their 50th consecutive regular season
win in a row, are ranked No. 1 for the second week in a row.
USF (9-0) will finish regular season play seeking its fifth
consecutive unbeaten regular season with a road game at
Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA, on Saturday. Kickoff is
at 1 p.m.
