FINDLAY, Ohio –
University of Saint Francis running back Doug Wasylk has
been named Mid-States Football Association Mideast League
Player of the Week for Sept. 23.
Wasylk, a sophomore and graduate of Heritage High School,
averaged 12.4 yards a carry, scored a 49-yard touchdown and
racked up his first 100-plus yard rushing game as a member
of the Cougars. His 49-yard
TD sprint was his third rushing TD this season. He
also rushed for three first downs and had 61 yards in the
second half, 20.3 ypc including 49-yd TD run, on just three
carries.
After
his first three starts for USF, the 5-foot-10, 201-pound
Wasylk is No. 2 in the MSFA for yards per carry at 7.6 and
No. 7 in MSFA rushing with an average of 73.7 yards per
game.
Wasylk
is the sixth different USF sophomore to rush for 100 or more
yards in a game.
He is the 11th player to rush for 100 or more yards in at
least one game.
Wasylk’s selection gives second-ranked USF an MSFA MEL
Player of the Week for a third consecutive week. LB Brian
Kurtz won for Sept. 16 and QB Eric Hooks won for Sept. 9.
Wasylk becomes the seventh USF running back to get selected
for at least one POW joining Michael Ledo, Kiante Lindsay,
Luther Stroder, Cory Jacquay, Eric Johnson and Adam Denning.
USF
has had 25 different players win POW in the MSFA 45 times.
The
Cougars play host to Ohio Dominican University on Saturday
(Sept. 30) for Homecoming 2006 at Bishop D’Arcy Stadium at
noon.
