Coate heads into his third season with the Cougar program
after spending 16 years at the University of Findlay (Ohio).
Coate, a graduate of UF, served two seasons as head coach
(1999 & 2000) after serving three seasons as offensive
coordinator. Coate joined the UF staff in 1984 after spending
two seasons as an assistant to Coach Donley at Georgetown.
Coate earned his bachelor's degree in education at UF in 1982
and secured his master's degree from Georgetown College in
1984. Coate also serves as head baseball coach at USF. He was
head coach at UF, where he guided the Oilers to a 199-182-7
record and four NAIA District 22 playoff appearances from 1985
to 1997. He is UF's all-time winningest coach.
He and his wife Julie reside
in Fort Wayne with their children, daughter Kylene and son
Seth.
