GRAND RAPIDS, MI. --
The University of Saint Francis women's cross country team
ended the season with a strong showing at the Region VIII
Championships hosted by Aquinas College.
The Cougars finished 13th out of
15 teams and were able to beat MCC foe Huntington College.
The Foresters finished one place ahead to USF two weeks ago at
the conference meet.
Sophomore Amy Roberts once again
led the Cougars with a 60th place finish and a seasons best
20:21. Tiffany Bremer finished in 91st place in 21:11.
Both Robyn Chapman and Jenny Schaefer were in the top 100 as
they placed 97th and 98th with times of 21:23 and 21:24.
Running her first meet for the
Cougars was former Bellmont High School standout Wendy Mahlan.
Mahlan who has battled injures for most of the last year and has only
been training for a few weeks now, ran a great race and
finished with a time of 21:44 to round out the scoring for USF.
In the men's race, James Dueling
ran a 27:28 to place 58th and Alex Bush finished his
outstanding freshman season with a 79th place finish with a
time of 28:07.
"Neither Jimmy or Alex had the
races we wanted to have today, but that happens," said Head
Coach Sarah Thrall. "They both ran tough today and both
had great seasons overall.
"I was extremely happy with our
women's team. Amy, Robyn and Jenny all ran their season
PR's today. It was great for us to be able to add Wendy
in there as well. She definitely made a difference for
us in the team scoring."
Another positive for the
Cougars is that they will return 10 runners next year
including their entire top seven.
