Gary Andrews

Success and Gary Andrews are familiar companions. Andrews has continued to produce winners in the collegiate ranks as he did at the high school level. Andrews just wrapped up his his sixth season as head coach of the University of Saint Francis having led the Lady Cougars to four NAIA Tournaments in six seasons, four 20-plus win seasons, two Mid-Central Conference championships and two MCC Tournament titles as well as 2 MCC Tournament runner-up finishes.  His teams have been to one NAIA Final Four, 2 Elite Eight, and 1 Sweet Sixteen in his tenure

Coach Andrews led the Lady Cougars to the 2006 Mid-Central Conference regular season championship.  The Lady Cougars finished the 2005-06 regular season this year with an overall record of 22-7 and 14-2 in the MCC.  Then the Lady Cougars followed up a successful regular season by winning the MCC Tournament Championship.  And the Lady Cougars advanced to the NAIA Division II Tournament Final Four in Sioux City, Iowa. Andrews was also named the WBCA Region Coach of the Year for 2006.

The 2006-2007 team ended the season ranked 3rd in the country. They finished the season 28-8. They made the elite eight of the NAIA national Tournament. This was a good accomplishment with a very young team.

Andrews, a Bellmont High School graduate, heads into his seventh season leading the Lady Cougars with a six-year record of 138-76.

His philosophy has made him one of the most successful high school basketball coaches in Fort Wayne history.  He expects his players to get the most out of their God-given ability.  He also demands that his teams play hard and play together. He has an overall record as a head coach at the high school and collegiate level of 305-109.

Andrews, a 1998 USF graduate, came to the Lady Cougars from Bishop Luers High School where he compiled a record of 167-43 (.795) in nine years at Bishop Luers.  His Knights won a record three straight IHSAA State Championships his last three years at Luers.  Andrews built the Luers program into one of the best programs in the history of Indiana high school basketball.  Andrews’ teams won six sectionals, four regionals, and three semi-states in his nine seasons.

Luers also won three Summit Athletic Conference (SAC) regular season and tournament championships with Andrews in charge.  Quite an achievement for the school with the smallest enrollment out of the 10 SAC schools.  Over his last three years at Luers, Andrews’ teams went 81-2.  They also finished the 2000-2001 season with a record of 28-0.

Andrews also coached AAU Women's basketball teams to 3 AAU National Championships in the early 1990's. His AAU teams also finished 3rd in the nation twice and fifth once.

Andrews played high school basketball at Bellmont in Decatur, Indiana.  He helped lead the Braves to two straight conference championships and a regional runner-up finish to eventual state champion Marion his junior season.  Andrews was named Adams County Player of the Year after his senior season at Bellmont in 1986.  He also played one year of basketball at Judson College in Elgin, Illinois.
