University of Saint Francis
guard Toni Burney’s 3-spree late in the Lady Cougars’ 68-52
win at No. 16 Shawnee State not only locked up the 12th
straight win for USF, it helped make her an easy choice for
Mid-Central Conference Player of the Week for the week
ending on Dec. 29.
Burney, a junior guard
from Greencastle, Ind., and a Greencastle H.S. grad, hit
three consecutive 3’s after hitting a 2-pointer – an 8-0
scoring surge – that propelled USF to the road win on Sat.,
Dec. 29. USF rose from a precarious 54-52 lead to 62-52 to
improve to 14-1 in the Lady Cougars’ final game of 2007.
Averaging 7.9 ppg before the two games at SSU, she averaged
20.5 in the SSU Classic. She made 15-of-28 shots including
6-for-10 from 3-point range.
It’s
the first time this season a member of the third-ranked Lady
Cougars has earned the conference honor.
