FORT WAYNE,
Ind.
– Yes, the University of Saint
Francis women's basketball
team is getting better.
USF coach Gary
Andrews saw the evidence in the fourth-ranked Lady Cougars'
81-69 win over Indiana Tech at Hutzell Athletic Center on
Saturday afternoon.
The Lady
Cougars improved to 12-1 with their 10th straight win behind
four double-figure scorers. Senior center Chivonn Keppeler led
with 20 points, Jessica Hathaway and Jenny Richards added 12
each and senior guard Nikki Lewis scored 10 to help USF win
its 21st consecutive game at Hutzell Athletic Center.
"Give Tech
credit, Tech came out hitting everything to take a 12-5 lead,"
Andrews said. "We didn't panic. We kept playing and a lot of
people stepped up, hit shots, and I thought we really moved
the ball well today. When we've got so many different players
scoring, we're had to guard."
Tech (5-6)
built up a 12-5 on a Kamisha Wilson jumper with 18:07 to play,
but USF rallied and after six ties, the Lady Cougars took the
lead for good 27-26 on a 3-point play by Marie Kaufmann with
8:56 to play. From that point USF outscored Tech 20-9 to lead
47-35 at the half.
Freshman guard
Angel Fincher hit a 3-pointer to start the USF scoring in the
second half and USF controlled a double-digit lead throughout
the second half. USF led by 23 twice and 21 on four different
occasions.
"We've made
pretty good improvement since we played them last," Andrews
added. "We did a much better job handling their full-court
pressure and taking care of the ball."
USF won 64-59
at Indiana Tech on November 18.
