OLATHE, Kan. – Off to its
best start since 2000-01, the University of Saint Francis
women’s basketball team moved up to No. 4 in the first NAIA
Top 25 Division II rating released on Wednesday.
The Lady Cougars, 11-1 and
winners of nine consecutive games, are in the top 5 for the
first time since the 1999-00 season when USF was ranked No. 1
in the final Top 25 of that season.
“We’re 11-1 and yet we’ve
still got room to improve,” USF coach Gary Andrews said.
“We’re still learning to play together, new players and
inexperienced, and we do have the talent to be as good as we
were last year, maybe better. But our conference may be one of
the best if not the best in NAIA.”
USF moved up from No. 8,
where the Lady Cougars were ranked in the November 1
pre-season Top 25. This is USF’s 22nd appearance in
the Top 5. USF Mid-Central Conference rival Indiana Wesleyan
is undefeated and moved up to No. 1 from No. 2 in the
preseason Top 25. Bethel College is also undefeated and moved
from No. 18 in the preseason Top 25 to No. 8, so the MCC
boasts three members in the Top 25.
The Lady Cougars, 74-42
winners over Goshen College on Tuesday night, resume action on
Saturday at Hutzell Athletic Center against Indiana Tech at 1
p.m.
