FORT WAYNE,
Ind.
– USF junior Tara Dice hit five three-pointers en route to
18 points, leading the Lady Cougar basketball team to a
71-66 win over visiting Cornerstone University. USF built an
11-point lead midway through the first period and held a
three-point halftime cushion before the Golden Eagles led by
as many as three with under eight minutes to play in the
game.
"I am happy
with the win. Cornerstone is a very good team," USF head
coach Gary Andrews said. "We started out well but had some
lapses that let them back in it. Instead of pouting and
quitting, we made some plays, toughed it out and won the
game."
The Lady
Cougars (8-1) held Cornerstone (4-3) to 37% shooting for the game,
limiting the Golden Eagles to a 4-of-18 connection rate from
long range. CU's Amber Cleypool was just 1-of-8 from deep.
Chivonn
Keppeler scored 16 points -- eight in each half -- and
Jessica Hathaway netted 13 with nine boards for the Lady
Cougars. Angle Fincher distributed seven assists in the win.
The duo of Sarah Bussis and Jenna Plewes scored 21 and 19
respectively for CU.
USF returns to
the MCC circuit Wednesday, Nov. 29 at Huntington University.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
