Bojrab badgers Algoma to lead USF to 2nd straight win at SXU

Fri., Dec. 21, 2007

CHICAGO, Ill. -- University of Saint Francis guard Nate Bojrab scored a career-high 32 points and had 10 steals in the Cougars'  99-62 win over Algoma University on Friday afternoon in the fifth-place game of the St. Xavier Holiday Tournament.

Bojrab was named to the All-Tournament team for his performance after averaging 22.3 points per game in the Cougars' three games. He scored 21 points on Thursday in the 90-82 win over St. Ambrose giving him back-to-back career scoring bests. He came into the tournament averaging 8.8 points a game with a season-single game best of 16.

Bojrab also led USF rebounding with eight boards in 36 minutes of play.

He had ample assistance on offense with 17 points from Kreigh Hentrup and 13 apiece from Matt Edmonds and Zach Christlieb. The Cougars shot 56 percent for the game and outscored the Canadian institution 38-10 off turnovers and 24-4 off fastbreak opportunities.

"The last two games as a team, we've produced our two best field goal percentage games this season and it's been fun to see the way this team has executed and worked together," USF coach Jeff Rekeweg said. "A team can fold under the adversity we've had to deal with or they can come closer together. Our guys have really come together. Our communication has been the best we've had all season."

As far as individual achievement was concerned, Rekeweg marveled at Bojrab's accomplishment against Algomon.

"As long as I've played and coached, I don't know if I've ever seen a line like Nate had tonight. That's a remarkable line at any level. (Mike) Steinau only five points, but played a great game getting the ball to the open man in a position to score. Kreigh (Hentrup) did a great job Thursday and Friday after only playing about 20 minutes in our first 11 games of the season. (Zach) Christlieb, (Aaron) Gardner and Matt (Webb) had all played limited minutes, but they all made major contributions along with Matt (Edmonds) and Jason (Malone)."

Steinau scored 41 points in three tournament games and leaped from No. 14 on the USF 1,000-point list to No. 11 with 1,305 points.
