CHICAGO, Ill. --
Nate Bojrab scored 14 points and Mike Steinau added 13, but
the University of Saint Francis dropped a 77-58 decision to
Mount Marty (S.D.) on Wednesday night in the first round of
the St. Xavier Holiday Tournament.
Mount Marty didn't
play like a 3-9 team shooting 52 percent to hand the Cougars
their fifth loss in 12 games. USF shot 28 percent in the
first half and trailed 36-26 at halftime. The Cougars shot
36 percent in the second half, not nearly good enough to
compete with Mount Marty which hit 54 percent in the second
half and outscored USF 41-32.
USF led once at 1-0
and battled back to tie the game at 10 on a Steinau jumper
with 13:32 to play. After slipping behind by 10, USF got as
close as five in the last four minutes of the first half,
but no closer.
The Cougars got as
close at six points twice early in the second half, the last
time on an Aaron Gardner jumper at 38-32 with 17:01 to play.
Mount Marty hit back-to-back shots to restore its
double-digit lead and USF never got any closer than nine the
rest of the half.
USF played without
Kevin Sindle and Philip McCray, both declared academically
ineligible; Eric Eaton, ankle injury; and Austin Leisure,
who is out indefinitely after minor knee surgery.
