Mon., Feb. 23, 2004 University of Saint Francis freshman Trey Eaton has been named Mid-Central Conference Co-Newcomer of the Year and Eaton and junior teammate John Gensic were named to the All-MCC team team released on Monday. Eaton (Claypool, IN / Tippecanoe Valley) was an All-MCC second team selection. The 6-foot-4 Eaton led USF in scoring with a 15.9 average as well as in 18 of 32 games. Eaton scored 508 points reaching double figures in 25 games. He scored 20 or more points in nine games with a high of 29 against highly-ranked Siena Heights. Eaton was No. 3 in MCC free-throw shooting percentage, No. 7 NAIA; No. 4 in MCC scoring and No. 6 in MCC 3-point field goals made. Gensic (Albion, IN / Bishop Dwenger) was a third team selection after he finished No. 8 in 3-point field goals made in MCC play, No. 9 in field goal percentage (.381 / 67-for-176), and No. 20 in scoring. He led USF scoring in five games, averaged 11.3 points a game, and scored in double figures in 16 games with a high of 25 points. USF junior Chase Holden (Hamilton, IN / Hamilton) and Nick Ankenbruck (Fort Wayne / Homestead) were honorable mention selections. Holden finished No. 5 in MCC double-doubles with six and No. 9 in rebound average at 5.8. Ankenbruck finished No. 4 in 3-point field-goal percentage in the MCC (.413 / 38-for-92). MCC Tournament play opens this week for women on Tuesday night and men on Wednesday night. Standings and first round pairings are attached.
