ADRIAN, Mich.
-- Chase Holden and Jontae James led five University of Saint
Francis players in double figures with 15 points apiece, but
Siena Heights University used an 18-2 run to take charge and
defeat the Cougars 105-88 on Tuesday night. Holden and James scored 15 points apiece for USF, which had its five-game winning streak snapped by the 14th-ranked Saints (7-3). The Cougars rallied from a seven-point deficit early in the first half and took a 32-30 lead on a John Gensic rebound basket. SHU closed the door on any USF upset hopes closing the first half with an 18-2 scoring surge to lead 48-34 at halftime. "We knew what they would do, pressure full-court for all 40 minutes, and we still made too many bad decisions to have a chance to be successful," USF Coach Jeff Rekeweg said. "In a minute and a half it went from a four-point game to a 12-point deficit and I'm very disappointed in our decision making." The Cougars committed 16 turnovers and SHU outscored USF 27-5 off turnovers in the first half. SHU finished with a 36-18 edge in points off turnovers despite the Cougars hitting on 13 three-point shots. James scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half. Gensic finished with 11 points including three baskets from three-point range in the first half, but he fouled out with just over eight minutes to play. Keith Roddy had 13 points and Dusty Beucler had 12. And in a game USF got outrebounded 49-38, Zach Beiswanger came off the bench to lead the Cougars with six boards. The Cougars resume play on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Luxbury Tournament at Hutzell Athletic Center against IU-Northwest. IU-Southeast plays Lindsey Wilson in the first men's game at 3 p.m. |
