ANGOLA -- Chase Holden played as if
he was on his home court in nearby Hamilton and the University
of Saint Francis held off a last minute Tri-State University
rally for a 72-69 win at Hershey Hall late Saturday afternoon.
Holden, a 2001 Hamilton High School graduate,
scored five points in a 9-2 USF run after Tri-State (2-4) had
drawn within a point, 55-54, with 5:49 to play in the game.
Holden also contributed with a big blocked shot in the run and
finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds, the first
double-double of the season for 6-3 USF.
The Cougars have won five straight games
and will put their streak on the line on Tuesday night at
Siena Heights in Adrian, Mich. Tipoff is 7 p.m. Tri-State
dropped its third straight game and home opener.
Holden, who connected on 9-of-12
shots, was one of three Cougars in double figures. Nick
Ankenbruck added 13 points including the final point of the
game when he hit 1-of-2 free throws giving USF final margin of
victory with 2.7 seconds to play. Jontae James added 10 points
and three assists.
USF led 32-29 at the half on 46 percent
shooting. TSU shot 42 percent in the first half. Neither team
shot well. USF shot 43 percent for the game on 26-of-61, TSU
shot 42 percent on 24-of-57. The Cougars did outscore TSU
27-19 off the bench and 15-9 from three-point range.
