MARION -- From
start to finish, the University of Saint Francis cruised to
one of its best efforts of the season culminating in a 92-56
win at Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday.
USF freshman Dusty Beucler scored 20 points
to lead a USF offensive that shot 64 percent, 71 percent on
22-for-31 shooting in the second half. The Cougars (13-15,
3-7) snapped a four-game losing streak by outscoring IWU 52-20
in the second half after leading by just 40-36 at halftime.
USF sophomore Nick Ankenbruck finished with 16
points, sophomore Chase Holden added 15 points, senior Jontae
James 13 and sophomore Cleevas Craig delivered 12 points.
"We got a strong defensive effort most of
the second half and that led to offensive opportunities that
we finished," USF Coach Jeff Rekeweg said after his
Cougars secured a series sweep over the Wildcats. "It all
started with defense, then executing and finishing on the
offensive end."
The Cougars outscored IWU by nine at the
free-throw line missing just two (15-for-17). USF outscored
IWU 15-12 from 3-point range, by 20 from 2-point range, and
held a 31-20 edge in rebounds.
After IWU shot 54 percent (15 of 28) in the first
half, the Wildcats shot 32 percent in the second half hitting
just 8-of-25 attempts from the field. USF shot 71 percent on
22-of-31 shooting in the second half.
USF resumes Mid-Central Conference play at
Hutzell Athletic Center against 16th-ranked Taylor at 7 p.m.
