UPLAND, Ind. -- John Gensic scored 19 points and
drew the University of Saint Francis within four points early
in the second half, but the Cougars dropped a 70-56
Mid-Central Conference contest to 12th-ranked Taylor on
Saturday afternoon at Odle Gymnasium.
Chase Holden added 12 points for USF
(11-11, 1-3 MCC). The Cougars resume action on Tuesday, Jan.
21, against Bethel at 7 p.m. at Hutzell Athletic Center. Matt
Traylor led Taylor (16-4, 3-1 MCC) with 28 points.
Traylor nailed three 3-pointers in a 3:30
timeframe during the first half to increase Taylor's advantage
to 33-24 by halftime. Traylor scorched the nets for 14 first
half points on 4-of- 6 shooting from 3-point range. The
Trojans defense held the Cougars to 36 percent shooting in the
first half.
USF finished shooting 36 percent (16 of 45) for
the game while Taylor hit 54 percent (27 of 50) overall, 54
percent from 3-point range (6 of 11). USF hit 82 percent (18
of 22) from the free-throw line.
