| Cougars Get Back on Track with Big Win over Madonna |
|
Nov. 17, 2004 FORT WAYNE, Ind. – John Gensic’s 15 points on 5-9 shooting (4-7 three-point range) led Saint Francis (3-3) to a 93-76 home win over Madonna University (1-3) Wednesday night. The Cougars improved on a recent run of poor shooting with a 50% effort from the field (33-66) in the game. USF also shot well as a team behind the arc, connecting on 10-23 attempts (43.5%). The Cougars broke the game open in the first half with 18-8 and 14-6 runs. Dusty Beucler had nine points in the opening stanza, which saw USF take a 52-33 advantage in the locker room. Madonna outscored USF 43-41 after the break, but it was not enough to overcome the large Cougar cushion. Woodlan High School product Noel Emenheiser led all scorers with 26 points for the Crusaders. Joining Gensic in double-figures for USF were Nick Ankenbruck and Beucler with 11 and Chase Holden with 10. Zach Beiswanger had a perfect shooting night (3-3 from the field, 1-1 free throws) for nine points and had a game-high five assists. The Cougars have one final tune-up prior to next week’s MCC opener. USF heads north to take on IU-South Bend in a 3 p.m. tip on Saturday, Nov. 20. The tough conference schedule begins Tues., Nov. 23 at home versus Goshen College.
