Tuesday, April 3, 2007

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- University of Saint Francis senior Josh Widman has been named Mid-Central Conference and NAIA Region VIII Baseball Player of the Week for his play in eight games last week (March 26-31) for the Cougars.

The right-fielder from Findlay, Ohio, batted .471 while establishing a new USF career hit record with his first hit in the Cougars’ 28-19 win over Defiance College (OH) on Sunday.

Earlier this season Widman set a new high for career RBI and his total now stands at 95 for his career. The old record was 87. Widman had 5-multi-hit games last week and got at least one hit in 7 games. He had 16 hits in 34 at-bats to raise his average this season from .237 to .347.

Widman was named MCC and NAIA Region VIII POTW once in 2006 as a junior.
