Greg
Roberts, Head Coach
Roberts, a 1980 Ohio Northern
University graduate, begins his first season as head baseball
coach at USF in 2006. Roberts was assistant head coach of the Cougar
program under former dugout boss Doug Coate the previous two
season.
Prior to joining the USF staff, Roberts served as an assistant
coach for 15 seasons and one season as interim head coach at
his alma mater, ONU. The team qualified for the NCAA
Division III Regionals in eight of those campaings and had 12
winning seasons.
During his playing days,
Roberts helped the 1974 ONU squad qualify
for the NCAA World Series. A 1971 Bellfontaine (OH) High
School graduate, Roberts also served for 20 years on the Lima,
Ohio, police department, the last 15 as an investigator.
He and his
wife Donna now reside in Fort Wayne and are the parents of
four children.
Jason Booth, Pitching Coach
Coach Jason Booth returns to the Cougar baseball program for
his second season. In 2006 Jason went home to Canada and
took a Job as the Director of Baseball Operations with the
Ontario Diamond Jack Baseball Club.
Jason first joined the Cougars in 2005, after a three
year playing career at Goshen College. While at Goshen Jason
was able to help rebuild a program that had 7 wins in his
first season and 24 in his final season, 3rd most wins in
school history. In Jason senior season he was 4-2 and led
his team in ERA. Jason graduated from Goshen College in
2004, with a Degree in Business.
Jason first joined the Cougars in 2005 as the pitching
coach, and will be working with the pitcher again in 2007.
During the summer Coach Booth returns home to Ontario, when
he is the Director of Future Stars Baseball Camp, he also
coaches the Hamilton Thunderbirds of the Intercounty
Baseball League. Jason is currently pursing his Master’s in
Business from the University of Saint Francis; he is
currently single and resides in Fort Wayne
Erik Hisner,
Assistant Coach
Erik
Hisner begins his first season as an assistant baseball
coach at the University of Saint Francis. In 2006, he was
an assistant coach at Goshen College.
Prior
to being an assistant coach at Goshen, Hisner started every
game during his four-year playing career with the Maple
Leafs from 2002-2005 and left as the program’s career leader
in batting average (.419), hits (211), RBI (161), bases on
balls (85) and home runs (31), while ranking fifth in career
games played (152). He was a three-time All-Mid-Central
Conference performer, and was selected as an NAIA Region
VIII and NAIA All-American honorable mention performer
following the 2005 season. Hisner graduated from Bellmont
High School in 2001 where he earned 7 varsity letters in
tennis, basketball, and baseball. Following his senior
season, Hisner was selected to play in the prestigious
Indiana North-South All-Star Baseball Series.
Hisner graduated from Goshen College in December of 2005
with a degree in physical education and health. He is
employed by Fort Wayne Community Schools and teaches
physical education at Northrop High School where he is also
an assistant baseball coach for the Bruins.
Hisner and his wife of one year, wife, Jessica, reside in
Columbia City.
Dustin Butcher,
Assistant Coach
A former Cougar Baseball team
member who graduated in 2001 with a degree in psychology,
Butcher will work with hitters, infielders and the junior
varsity team in 2007. Butcher played at USF from 1998
through 2001. He served as an assistant coach at
Marian College while completing his Masters in Sports
Psychology at Ball State University. A Heritage High
School graduate, Butcher is a teacher at Wayne High School
teaching Jobs for America's Graduates. He also works
for "Play It Smart" and the National Football Foundation.
Butch and his wife, Jessica, reside in Fort Wayne.
