University Instrumental Spring Concert

 

The School of Creative Arts presents a spring concert by the University Guitar Ensemble and the University Jazz Ensemble in the North Campus Auditorium off of Spring Street at the University of Saint Francis on Tuesday, April 14th at 7:00pm.  Under the direction of Dr. Daniel Quinn and Robert Mayer, the programs will highlight classical and modern arrangements by a variety of composers.

University Singers Spring Concert

The School of Creative Arts presents a spring concert by the University Singers in the North Campus Auditorium off of Spring Street at the University of Saint Francis on Wednesday, April 15th at 7:00pm, under the direction of Maestro Robert Nance. Joining the University Singers on several selections will be members of the Heartland Chamber Chorale, northeast Indiana’s regional professional chorus in residence on the campus of the University.   

This concert features a newly formed, small ensemble chosen from within the chorus, singing a medley of Gershwin tunes side by side with members of the Heartland Chamber Chorale.  Other selections include: Prayer of Saint Francis by Clausen; A Grand Night for Singing by Rodgers/Hammerstein; Bring Him Home from Les Miserables by Schonberg; Pie Jesu from Requiem by Andrew Lloyed Weber; They Shall Soar Like Eagles by Manzo; Father of Light by Courtney; Be Thou My Vision traditional Irish tune, arranged by Basler; Gloria from Missa Kenya by Basler; Celtic Blessing by Douglas Wagner; and He Never Failed Me by Robert Ray.

The University Singers have been under the direction of Maestro Nance since the fall of 2008.  During that time, curricular goals have included a concentration on the fundamentals of music, including sight singing, solfége, basic vocal production and musicality, which have been applied in the learning of variety literature from traditional anthems, folk songs, spirituals and spiritual songs, vocal jazz, gospel music, and pop music.

 Admission is free and open to the public.

Performing Arts Classes:

 

Music and Music Technology

SOCA offers courses in music appreciation, history, performance, technology and application. Students are offered the opportunity to learn guitar, study the history of rock and roll and learn sound design theories and applications.

  • Music Technology prepares students to work in the music business and for music production and technology.  Students can concentrate in the following areas: Music Technology Sales/Marketing/Management; Recording, Engineering & Production; and Audio for the Creative Arts.
  • The Jazz Ensemble provides students with an opportunity for serious jazz performance. The Jazz Ensemble performs music from all parts of the jazz repertoire. Additional instruction helps to fine tune the jazz musician through regular ensemble rehearsals.
  • The Pep Band performs at all home varsity football and basketball games to boost Cougar Spirit. It provides the base of the fan support at the home games.
  • University Singers is a collegiate choir which performs and rehearses a wide variety of music and styles throughout the year. It enables students to enhance their educational experience in the performing arts. The club is open to all University of Saint Francis students who would like to be involved in the experience and outreach service of music.
  • The University of Saint Francis Drum Corps enhances school spirit with traditional drumming techniques and alternative percussion.  Incoming and current students are invited to become involved in the Line and participate in a musical marching unit that performs at on-field competitions, parades, festivals and other university functions.

Dance

SOCA offers classes in dance that range from beginning ballet to intermediate jazz styles. These courses offer students and in-depth understanding of dance by promoting readings, video viewings and dance compositions which help to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the art of dance.

Theater

The University of Saint Francis offers a fall and spring play for all USF students. SOCA is involved is all aspects of theatre production from set construction to performance.

The Drama Club, Act One, exists to offer a basic introduction to theatre, plus practical, hands-on experience in acting, stage management, set and costume design, painting, set/prop construction, lighting and sound technology. Act-One also offers opportunities to attend local and regional theatre productions. The purpose of the Club is to provide opportunity to use and develop a variety of skills, to grow in appreciation of the theater; behind the scenes, on-stage and as an audience member.
