Kóan
Jeff Baysa, M.D. to Speak at USF
|
Kóan
Jeff Baysa, M.D. is Head of the New York Curatorial Office for MOCA
China and will present at USF on Wednesday, April 23 beginning at
7:30 p.m. located in the North Campus auditorium. Baysa's
lecture, “Prometheus-Frankenstein,” is about artists who have
incorporated their formal medical training into an artistic practice.
All of these professionals have medical degrees, and some have chosen to
leave, in part or in whole, the full-time practice of clinical medicine
to follow their muses. The title is a pairing of the name of the demigod
who is perpetually punished for giving fire to man; the other is the
name of the physician that became synonymous with the monster that he
created. There are well known writers: Chekov, Holmes, as well as
Chrichton, Seltzer, Cook, Gerritsyn, Carlos and Campos, but lesser known
are musicians, i.e. The Heartbeats, and possibly even lesser known,
visual artists. Artists include Warren Neidich, Lee Etheredge IV, Mark
Depman, Thomas Kovachevich, and Mark Kessell among others. |
